Biographical Info

Omar majored in Anthropology at Northwestern University and joined Teach for America after graduating. During his time as a TFA corps member, he worked as an AP Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science teacher at a charter school in Chicago while completing a Masters in Teaching from Dominican University. After 2 years he began medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and became an advocate for neighborhood schools, joining his Local School Council. At UIC he was a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and developed research interests in Bariatric Surgery and the perceptions of patients with Sickle Cell disease amongst medical students. His interests include obesity, IBD, fecal transplant and transitions of care. Sadly, Omar is a tortured Northwestern sports fan.
